Jasper Wong
School: Kalani High School
Career: Artist | Co-Founder of POW! WOW! Hawaii (now World Wide Walls)
Jasper Wong is a multitalented creative—an artist, illustrator, art director, and curator whose work has been showcased in exhibitions across the globe, from China and France to Australia and beyond. However, most recognize him as the visionary behind what was once known as POW! WOW! Hawaii, now rebranded as World Wide Walls, a global street art movement.
After attending college in California, Jasper moved to Hong Kong to immerse himself in the manufacturing industry. While there, he faced rejection when trying to showcase his art, often being told he didn’t fit the mold of the “right kind” of Chinese artist. Rather than conform, Jasper had a bold idea: “Why not open my own gallery?”
And that’s exactly what he did. Jasper discovered an abandoned restaurant on the outskirts of Hong Kong and, after painting the walls white and adding windows, launched his first gallery. From this humble beginning, the POW! WOW! Festival was born—a celebration of art, culture, and community that would eventually expand globally and evolve into what is now known as World Wide Walls.
