Career: native content creator, host of talk story
From a young age, McKenna Maduli loved connecting with others and telling stories. This passion led her to L.A. where she found an interest in entertainment reporting. From writing stories to logging footage, McKenna worked in every position in television. But when it came time to be in front of the camera, McKenna was constantly told “no.”
“I’m a hapa haole Hawaiian girl, and [the casting directors] didn’t know what I was. I never fell into anyone’s box,” says McKenna. After many auditions, she finally got her big “yes” hosting MTV’s NextMovie Daily.
McKenna continued her successful career in entertainment, interviewing the likes of Oprah Winfrey to Alicia Keys. But around 2016, McKenna developed a deep feeling in her naʻau telling her it was time to take her talents back home to Hawaiʻi.
