School: Ka‘ū High School
Career: Entrepreneur & Filmmaker | Aria Studios & Hometown Legends
Kolby Akamu Moser’s journey from the small town of Ka‘ū, Hawai’i, to becoming a successful filmmaker and entrepreneur is a testament to seizing opportunities and the power of self-belief. Raised in a community that valued strength and self-reliance, Kolby embraced the possibilities that surrounded her. After starting her career in news production at KGMB, she quickly advanced through the ranks and, by the age of 23, became the producer of Hawai'i’s number one 10 o’clock newscast. This achievement underscored her determination and drive to succeed in a highly demanding industry.
Kolby’s entrepreneurial spirit soon led her to establish Aria Studios, a wedding and filmmaking company where she navigated the complexities of running a business while balancing the demands of being a working mom. Deeply connected to her Hawaiian roots, Kolby also launched Hometown Legends, a project that honors kūpuna by preserving their stories, reflecting her commitment to her culture and the values that shaped her upbringing.
Kolby’s approach to success is rooted in the belief that small steps can lead to big outcomes. Rather than focusing on major leaps, she emphasizes the importance of taking each step as it comes, even when facing challenges and risks. Her mindset demonstrates that incremental progress, when done with purpose and consistency, can ultimately lead to greater achievements both personally and professionally.
