BLAINE APO

King Kekaulike High School

Career: Entrepreneur, Owner of Maui Crisps

When Blaine Apo took over the Shell gas station in Kahalui from his father-in-law, he had to make some major changes. Costco had become a huge competitor for gas sales. He need to find a way to stand out from other gas stations.

They started selling Samurai ice cream, poke and pipikaula with poi. When trying to perfect their pipikaula recipe, Blaine accidentally created what would become Maui Crisps.

Suddenly, Blaine and his team were in high demand. Maui Crisps had become the island’s newest food craze, and soon people all over the state were buying their creation. However, none of it would’ve happened without thinking outside the box. When we dare to be different, we separate ourselves from the crowd and our competitors.
